Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) stalls, then starts right up

Can anyone tell me how I can check my codes on my 1998. 5. It has been stalling on first startup and then it will start right up. The fuel pressure drops out momentarily and the pressure come up be for I try to restart. The engine light has been coming on sometimes. Just wandering if there is a way to check for code without a scanner. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure if it works on a 98. 5, but you cycle the key on/off 3 times & codes will flash. I would go to Auto Zone... . free scans!

I tried that after reading on here about some doing that on a 99 but it does not seem to work on mine. Thanks I will check out the Auto Zone thing.

I had a mechanic check the codes and here are the codes that he found in it he couldn't really tell me what the problem was. P0234, P1693, P0222
