I've been to Schied and held this unit in my hands. It looks like a pretty good device and at least the OEM lift pump can pump through this one if it dies they claim. Schied has them installed on their own trucks and claim no failures in over a year... or something along that length of time. Stanadyne has also tested one running for 18 months non-stop with no failures. My only thought was that I would want to install it back by the tank along the frame rail. I think that would be a better location personally. I dont want to clutter up the engine compartment anymore than it already is. Hey, at least this one is a filter/pump combo which makes it that much better. Only thing I saw on stanadynes site about this unit was that because it has a pump integral with the filter housing, the filter is a special one in that the pump causes the diesel to flow the opposite way throught the housing that it normally would and the filter has to be a reverse flow design... as compared to the "normal filters" used on this filter unit. So you might be stuck on having to buy these special filters.
