I talked a dude at the Scheid event this past August that was having nothing but issues with his standalone hooked to a 48RE...

You can get a hold of the DTT people and install a RH valvebody in place of the RE's electronics... just a simpler and cheaper alternative.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the RE and RH have different cases... any transmission vendor would know that info, though.
