Stand Alone Fuel Management System

Thanks, TDR Staff

Just installed new twins and have a ?...

Has this been disscussed before? I dont think it has. But now since our trucks have a fuel system that is all electronic why hasnt anyone made a complete stand alone FMS? We would be able to control all of our duration, pilot and post injection events, pressures and max RPM, while totally customizing how our trucks run. Is it because of liabillity for smog regs on the multiple injections? To much money? I just think that its not efficient by fooling or taking an ecm signal and just manipulating it, If we could control and customize each paramater I think our trucks would undoubtably have more power, smoother power delivery, and get way better fuel mileage. What do you guys think? Is it worth the money? Is it logical and practical?

You already have it with a newer truck , its called reflashing the computor , there are going to be limitaions as you mentioned emissions ect. and a other is that it is not an open source like linx, I am talking from being close but not doing , I got ripped off out of the repair biz just after reflashing came in , but I saw on the speed channel the 2 guys put in a blower in a new chev P/U and they reflashed the truck to get the fuel & timing to work with mods . I see the guys are putting box's in there trucks but this is why I like the older trucks , keep it simple.

I dont think you understand what Im talking about, A reflash is what a dealer does to your ECM or PCM to modify functions in the motor and or drivetrain, and what your talking about on the speed channel is somewhat what I am looking for but alot more, I am talking about a seperate or stand alone complete electronic fuel system programing software that overrides or loops the factory fueling/enginge managingback into itself and would be capable of controling all fueling duties on its own (such as injection fire amounts, (length and when), pressures, and defueling. What one could do with such a thing is to say only have a single or just pilot and main injection (for us 325 guys) have complete digital timing thats controlable at any given RPM, One could be able to program his own injection duration and or pressure at any given RPM, unlimited fueling beyond 3300 RPM. It would take the task of fooling or manipulating (like many of our chips today do) the factory ECM and making it totally customizeable. I know that this wouldnt be for the common person because it could be very destructive but if it was tuned right just imagine the possibillities.

before I last worked in a shop [ 3 yrs ] the shop could buy the equipment and reflash , and the show that I was watching said that the equipment to reflash came with the kit that they were installing . the problum may be where the diferant kind of memorys I suspect that not all may easly be changed , when left you could get a 3D image on a computor screan to help diagnoce fuel , timing and I think almost all data cumming in and that fuel stratgy , now thats a lot of stuff and it would be difficult to no what the limitations of change are not doing that work anymore. but with all the avalable equipment and a hacking skills it wouldn't seem out of line that you could do most if not all of what your looking for , but then again I know that lets say that you had a carberated chev and you wanted to add fuel injection , you could buy that , with the computor from banks a while back, but I think that what I'm talking about would be a lot cheaper.

I have bought this up A while back. This would be an awesome piece for this trucks. Maybe we should call EDGE and TST, make the request that we want a stand lone fuel mangement system like the imports and the V8 guys have.

I cant belive that no one has hit this thread since my last post! I dont think that you guys realize how much better this can be for our trucks! I know that this isnt for everyone but for the big HP junkies and people who could tune thier fuel systems to who knows how far and efficient. How cool would that be to have a 3rd gen with only a single injection? it would sound cool wouldnt it? And how about shutting off the 3rd injection event so that power would be up, fuel consumption would be down as well as EGT's? How many people have stacked chips? EFILive's intro kit is less than a TST and it can do so many more things than our 3 main stacked chips (Dura/Time, Pressure, Program) I think fully customized we could be at higher HP levels and have fuel mileage easlily in the mid twenties. We'll just see how much better the D-max's get with this new technology and at least I hope it is available for us soon.

Here is a PM I just got from Ross at EFI live.

Matty,

We have at least 3 or 4 GM platforms in the works we need to finish off, after that we 'may' look into the Hemi first then other D. C platforms incl the trucks.

Time frame would be mid next year at best.

Thanks,

Ross

It sounds like there may be some hope for us in the future!

It's such a small market, not too many would buy it. I don't have the time to sit back and figure out which setting out of 10,000 is working better for me. I have enough trouble setting my Juice for a good combo of mileage/power/low end. Too many settings is a bad things for daily drivers/workers. How many wannabe diesel nuts (like me) would wreck something real quick? For those of you in the high performance end of things I can definently see it's value.

Think about that for a second. Kinda makes one chuckle at the Hemi and GM crowds' expense don't it...

Time will tell. Can't wait till it happens though. ;)

There are a couple of companies that do this with the LS Chevy motors, and I can only hope that something like this happens for us.
