The 5. 9 block has standard bore, 1st bore at 0. 50 mm and then 2nd bore at 1. 00 mm. And the honing limits are listed for each. And of course the pistons come in standard, 0. 50 mm over and 1. 00 mm over. All the diameters are listed everywhere except for the diameter of the standard piston. Where might I find the specs for the standard piston? Or does someone have one handy that you could measure and post?

I'm working on an oil burner and have a theory but need the measurements to verify.

The standard bore is: 102mm or 4. 02" the stroke is: 120mm or 4. 72"

Maximum cylinder bore wear limits: Diameter is 102. 116mm or 4. 0203"

max. out of round limits: . 038mm or . 0015"

Max taper: . 076mm or . 003"

PS: The minimum piston skirt diameter wear limit is: 101. 823mm or 4. 0088"

Yes there are 3 bore dimensions, 3 honing limits and skirt wear limits. And for pistons there are standard, 0. 50mm over and 1. 00 mm over. So the 2nd and 3rd pistons are 0. 50 and 1. 00 over what? There has to be a nominal size on a new piston to start with. Mahle has to manufacture a standard piston to a certain spec. So what would be the nominal standard diameter for a standar piston? That's the number I haven't been able to find. Or did I miss it in your answer?

Unless the pistons are destroyed I would think you could measure one of them. I would measure between the top and second ring, it should be free of carbon there. As a general rule other than the piston skirt, the piston does not touch the cylinder walls enough to wear.

My pistons are in the block so I was looking to see if there was somone that could measure one and post it. Or knew the diemensions or where to find them.
