Anyone having touble with a noisy NV4500 conversion from Standard Trans & Gear! I'm Getting noise in N and slightly in all gears. Sounds like main bearings to me, but I am unsure. I have also installed a South Bend Clutch with the Kevlar pilot bushing. The noise stops when the clutch is engaged. The whole setup has less than 200 miles. Syn-Torq oil was used. I opted for the remanufactured model for the fifth gear upgrade & fully splined main shaft.

I'm told someone from Atlanta with the same problem is going to Standard Trans & Gear tomorrow (12-20).

Please get in touch with me: 308 762 7111 or e-mail and I will call.

Be clear that I am fully pleased with both of these upgrades except for the noise!

Update

Took the truck to the local transmission shop today. They rebuilt the NP205 transfer case (which was "like new" inside) while the trans conversion was being made. The MAN stated that the trans noise was NORMAL for this application is his opinion. The noise I'm hearing is from the trans and not the clutch or the Kevlar pilot bushing. Some noise might be amplified because of going to a stamped steel clutch cover instead of the cast iron cover found on the stock clutch pressure plate. He thinks it is just gear lash, gear rumble, gear rattle, or whatever kind of gear noise name you might come up with. The driveline torsional noise is also prevalent in Diesel applications. Especially when lifted! Which is the noise that can be heard when “lugging” in to high of gear.

So I guess I'm just too picky as far as the noise is concerned. My apologies to Standard Transmission & Gear for any assumed responsibilities for this NORMAL noise. Also to South Bend Clutch in case any is needed. I am very happy with this clutch set up and can’t wait to put a load on to test!

If any one is interested in a fix for the seeping oil around the shifting shafts on the NP205 transfer cases, let me know and I will go into detail.
