I tried to adjust my timing today. Pump wouldn't turn. But that isn't the questions I have.

I'll post stock setting first.

Boost at WOT 17 PSI

Temp 1000 degree max

Now I was playing around today. I moved the fuel pin 90 degrees. This gave me boost of 19 and temps of 1050. max.

I then turned the star wheel 1/2 turn CW.

This brought me up to 20 PSI boost and 1150 on the temp at WOT.

I then turned the fuel pin to the 180 degree position. HHHMMM lost boost and temps. ??? So I put it back. Boost and temps came back to the other setting.

I then tried to move the star wheel another !/2 turn. It would not go a 1/2 turn. It was like it was bottomed out. It would go back but not forward.

Anyone have any thoughts on why the star wheel in my configuration only has 3/4 turn of adjustment.

The pump was replaced just before I bought the truck. I do not know who or where it was done at.

Hi Philip,

Sounds like the star wheel was almost bottomed out by prior owner or pump installer. No big deal. Pull your concentric pin out and look for the the deepest side of the pin. Place this side towards the front of truck and now you will have some room to play with the starwheel. Most likely you will need to back the starwheel out (ccw) so temps don't get to hot or drive by your right foot. :D

I'll pull it back apart tomorrow and check. I think that is about where it is now.

Right now I get one puff of black when I mash the motor. Then it turns grey. I didn't have the black till the adjusting I did. I did have the grey in most rpm ranges while moving before the adjustments.

Case500D has rode in it before. He can tell you it leaves a light gray trail behind it.

Did you check the pin to see were the deepest point is compared to were the pick punch mark on the top of diapham is so you can install with deepest setting to front of engine. The pin prick isn't in the same place compared to the pin on most pumps. You also need to turn up the fuel screw or get bigger injectors, as 20psi isn't very much fuel.

I would love new injectors. But untill I find a job "agin". I am just playing around with what I have.

Remember the 20#'s boost is with a 18cm housing also. not a 14 or 16cm.

I'll play around with the settings some more tomorrow.

I was just wondering why I ran out of star wheel like it did.

OH, NO... . Philip has been bitten by the BOMB bug..... there is no cure :D :D #ad

Like Mark said, someone must have tweaked the starwheel on the pump before you got it. From the factory I think I have at least 3 turns before it bottoms out. It's at about 1/2 turn clockwise from the stock setting right now. While you're in there, don't forget to tweak around with your smoke screw too. ;)

Philip hate to say but 18cm housing 24lbs boost 91 no intercooler:D your pump may need a bit of persuading to get it to move, hammer and block of wood ? then bring up the high rpm and hang on:D bill

Hi Philip,

It looks as though you had better get to work this morning as it is going to cool off tonight. Any idea of what shop put your pump on? I can testify that for a basically stock truck, it will get up and move. Must be those 3. 08 gears:) I will have to take you for another ride in my truck, it scoots much better now:D Talk to you later. Oh yeah, you might want to bump your pump timing up so you can get your EGT down. Then you will have more room to play a bit.

Jeremy

PS My wife and I now have a place to live NE of Peru once we graduate in May. Just think of the trouble we can get into now . . .

I leave very few motors stock. If you had seen some of the gasser C30's I have played with you wouldn't have said that. I also built stock car motors for a friend for 7 years. So the bug has always been there. :D

Last one I had was a 72 C30 with a 350. For 10 months I had a Holley Pro Jection unit on it. Idling in 2nd gear rolling, mash the motor it would lay down 15' of black marks from the duals. The unit was not relaible so I had to pull it off. In the 10 month period it was down for 10 weeks for injecton problems.

The one before that I built for my brother. 76 C30, 66 model 396 +. 030 10. 5 true compression ratio, Cam Diamanics cam 512 lift at . 050 lift. Duration of 290 degrees, over lap of 112 degrees. Edlebrock torker intake with a 750 Holley on it. 2. 5 exhaust on it to the rear bumper. This beast with a 7k load running 70 mph got 9 mpg. The 400 small block I took out only got 7 mpg with the same load. A camero with an auto in it didn't stand a chance. :D

I tried to persuade it. I used an brass punch and a 2 pound hammer. Still didn't move. So I just left it here it was.

Sorry Philip, it looks like you have it even worse than me

ROFLMAO "Yes I do"

Have you ever driven a 700 HP small block chevy. :D :D Oo. Oo.

A Luniti hard chromed crank was only good for one season. It would break about a month into the second season. :(
