I have yet to see my Start engine light or any light saying my truck is ready to start. My 6. 5 GM diesel has a start engine light.

I'm getting a remote starter put on my 2004 Ram and need to know how long he should set the timer before cranking engine?

He's got it set for ten seconds now but I think it's to long ,how about 3 or 5 seconds before cranking?

The 6. 5 was hooked up to the glow plug wire and when the light went out it automaticly started.

Any help would be great I just joined this site last week.

Thanks Steve

Steve,

Look in the lower center part of the dash for an amber lighted symbol that looks like two loops of a coil. That shows your grid heaters operating. When it goes out, the engine is ready to start.

To do the job properly, you need a logic circuit to determine when the "wait to start" light has extinguished before starting. Personally, I wouldn't just set a timer and rely on that. Depending on temperature, the preheat cycle can be up to 30 seconds.
