We're on vacation without a laptop and only have IPhones so searching isn't easy.

Started two days ago. The first start up in the morning, my engine idle is ROUGH! Once it warms up, it's fine and doesn't do it again.

No codes, but I'm blowing more black smoke than usual.

200k on OE injectors.

Injectors?

Fuel Control Acuator?

???

I'm not a mechanic, but I've heard of putting some 2 stroke oil in your tank. Maybe 8 ounces. If it goes away, it points toward FCA. Don't hold this as gospel, I'm only going by memory, and at least it's something you can look into. Good luck!

That would be a good place to start... maybe check the usual stuff as well... A replacement fuel filter might be another thing to do... . they are cheap, and it would confirm that you didnt pick up a load of dirty fuel...

Copy on the fuel filter. Have an extra in the tool box.

In Cody Wy right now. Stopped by the local Diesel shop for advice.

Was told the my engine troubles are not the FCA.

Was advised to start shopping for injectors.

This morning ,the engine cranked over without shuddering on idle. Maybe it was some bad fuel??

They gave examples of what happens when the FCA is going out or is when out and nothing matched my problems. Since I'm and out of towner' and they're a small service shop, they could have easily ripped me for the $183 asking price. They didn't and didn't try to sell me a set of new injectors either.

I called Dynamite Diesel afterwards and talked with them. They gave me the same answer so I got on their waiting list for Bosch injectors.

Cool, I'm glad you didn't get ripped or blown off. Seems like 200K is pretty good on stock injectors, so seems like $ well spent.

How did the mechanic "determine" it wasn't the FCA. I'm just curious...

He said that the trucks they get with a bad FCA will typically die going down the road. They pull over and let the truck sit and then can be re-started a few minutes later. This will supposedly continue to happen and become more frequent as time passes. I don't know for sure but was impressed because most places will "sell you a part to fix it" and never think nothing about it.

They didn't charge me a dime and asked nothing in return. I'm 2k miles away from home pulling a 36' 13k, triple axle fifth wheel with three women in my truck; I believe I'm money away right now, at least untill I pay for those new injectors. Hahaha.

I am a ways from Cody, Wy, but if you are headed home through Idaho and have problems there is a great shop in Idaho Falls called Richards diesel that knows the Dodge Cummins pretty well. I am also willing to help. PM me if you need some help and are in the SE Idaho area.

Well things keep getting worse.

My four old woke up with a migraine and is puking.

I got into the truck to run for medication. Crank the engine and nothing shake bake action with a big ole cloud of white smoke.

Had the truck towed to a local diesel mechanic and overnighted a set of Cummins injectors.

Talk about 10lbs of crap in a 5lb bag??
