01 Bone stock, 10 degree day, started , ran10 secs. quit, cranked good. Today 50 degrees changed fuel filter, started right mup, ran 10 secs. quit, fuel filter chamber did not fill up with fuel. tried it several more times. Changed lift pump 6 mos. ago. Looking for fuse to lift pump or any ideas. Im stuck. Thanks Frank K.

cycle the key on and off 3 times and check for codes in the odometer.

sounds like another dead lift pump and maybe an injection pump too.

You need to bleed the air out of the fuel lines up to the pump. Try opening up the fuel filter housing and filling it with known CLEAN diesel fuel upto the tip top. You will spill a little bit threading the top back on but you will have the air out. Next have someone remove the cap from the schrader valve on the injection pump and hold the valve open when you bump the starter to cycle the lift pump. A brand new pump does not have the umph to push the air out of the filter canister. You can bump the starter and cycle the pump all day and it will not do it. Have a rag handy to catch the fuel that squirts out of the schrader valve. Hold it open long enough to allow any air to pass out and you have a solid stream of fuel. Try starting the truck now. IF it starts it may take a few attempts and it is gonna really run crappy for a few seconds until the air is driven from the injector lines. If the truck still won't start, you will have to bleed the injector lines. loosen the fittings at the cylinder head and crank the engine over until fuel is spraying from all 6 fittings. Now try starting the truck. It should start now. Verify the lift pump pressure at the injection pump schrader valve with a pressure gauge.

There is no fuse to the lift pump - it is wired directly to the ECM. Does the wait to start light operate normally? Any other gauge issues? Mine drove me nuts trying to diagnose and it ended up being a faulty ECM. Eventually, the lift pump would not run when keyed on or even bumping the starter. My post is probably under 911 Archives. Good luck.
