Yesterday afternoon, started the truck, ran for about 3 seconds and shut off by itself.

Rolled key to "off" position.

Tried to restart - cranked for 5 seconds and no start.

Rolled key to "off" position.

Moved key into the "on-run" position to verify pump was running, then engaged the starter and engine started like normal.

This was not the first start of the day - truck ran normally all morning.

All maintenance, filters, etc are up to spec -- any ideas?

Thanks

The next time this happens, try swapping the Auto Shut Down relay for another non-essential relay (like maybe the fog light relay or one of the wiper relays) found in the PDC (Power Distribution Center) under the hood on the driver's side fender. If that fixes the problem, you can buy a replacement relay from Dodge or probably any good auto parts store for under $10.

Good luck,

John L.

my truck acts similar sometimes... trying to track down what exactly is causing it. I will check that relay as well

*edit* I need to read before typing

mine doesn't die, just won't re-start hot so easy sometimes

This happened to me one day. Itried it 5 timed and all 5 times it ran for 3 seconds and shut down. I was told it had something to do with the Sentry. Never did it again.

Starting, running, then stalling can be a symptom of an ECM or PCM not properly programmed with a SKIM PIN for the Sentry Key Immobilizer. Since your's did it only once, that would seem to rule out an ECM or PCM programming error.

Strange.
