Archived Starter cable Removal

Trying to get the starter out to install LarryBs contacts. Is their a trick to removing the 12 volt cable. I can't get the cover off.

Okay... I feel like an idiot. The starter cable nut had worked loose. This loose connection as you cna imagine generated enough heat to basically cook the soft rubber cover over the nut. It was so hard I was looking for a snap connection. Finally got it pryed off and now have the starter on the bench waiting for the contacts to arrive. Contact on the battery side is almost completely gone.
