Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Broke my transmission

I'm in the middle of doing Larry B's terminals . Im on the east coast time zone and to early for larry. Does the spring and plunger need to have grease on it . It seems the spring has grease on it now. Was not in the directions. For anyone attempting this make sure you have a 1/4 breaker bar for the starter bolts, it will hug the socket tighter and fit in the tight hole

on the bottom,it actually worked nice on the top one also.

Thanks RJ

I meant to say 3/8" breaker bar,and it will take all that. Talked to larry and the ball does get greased.

Shucks, just replaced one today with no grease, should we do it over?:)

There was quite a bit of residual grease in there, enough that the ball stayed in place. What kind of grease?

A gear wrench (ratching box end) is excellent for removing the bolts after they're broken loose.

should we do it over? writes Illflem.

Geez, I sure hope not. What a pain in the rump!

Please, LarryB, tell me everything is OK and I don't have to tangle with the starter for another hundred thousand miles.

Eagerly awaiting the good/bad news.

Steve

My ace starter mechanic, 30yrs exp. , says don't worry about it! No grease is fine, or if you must, just use the greasy kind of grease. He says the grease just dries up any way. He has never seen a problem caused by dry/no grease. There is just not enough movement there to cause wear even if dry. This is why he never mentioned it to me before. So I guess this is a non issue!

Carry on men!:D

Thanks LarryB!

Now I can concentrate on more important things. Like which oil I should use. Or what filter. Or what Automatic transmission I should install.

Anybody got any opinions?

Steve

It's a JOKE. RELAX!
