Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) starter contacts

Question: can burned contacts make fore a slow starter & hard starting?

Mine didn't, i had slow/hard starting and tore it down and the contacts were in great shape. Bought a new starter and moved the upgraded/thicker contacts from the old one into the new starter and OMG my starter had been dragging for some time, just didn't really notice.

I think bad/worn contacts will cause difficulty engaging the starter but once it engages it should spin the engine normally.

Have you checked for a bad battery?

Oh yes. The batteries are old weak. This happens when I use a jump. Generally the booster vehicle needs to be running at a fast idle too. Then sometimes if I don't need the toasters, it starts fine on it's own.
