well, i am finished changing out the starter contacts. WOW!! one of the contacts was almost burned all of the way thru.....

i recommend you change yours out if you are approaching 100k.

why only one of the contacts worn so far?

funny that the replacement contacts were not thicker but had a larger footprint than the originals. has anyone else noticed this?

thanks.

That's because I sent you the SuperSize contacts. These are designed for 24 volt applications. These should last quite a bit longer than the stock replacements.

This picture shows a stock contact compared to our Super Size contacts.

Simply put, direct current (DC) travels in one direction causing one side of an arc to burn more. so the when the power travels from the first contact to the plunger the plunger may burn but over a larger area. As the plunger has a much larger contact area the burning is less noticable. When the power travels from the plunger to the second contact, the second contact gets burned.

At least this is how I understand it. Hope this helps.

Cost, bottom line cost. If they built the rest of the truck to last as long as the motor, they wouldn't sell very many new ones. Seems the contacts outlast the warranty period, that's all they worry about.
