Just installed Larry B's starter contacts. Very simple job took about 30 minutes start to finish. Was tired of truck taking 3 billion turns of the key to start it.

I will tell you this those other contacts where smoked big time... ... ... ..... also installed new plunger... ..... starts like a champ now.

Starter rebuild

I just received my Larry B. repair kit. It will be a project after Christmas.

How many miles on your truck when you did your starter???

Larry B's

Bought a kit last month for a friend of mine's brother. He has over 200K on his truck. Purchased a second backup kit for myself/whomever.

We may have a new member soon.

I don't think mileage really matters - probably more dependent on number of starts. Mine only had about 60k miles before it stuck on.

I've done mine twice already. Once at 45,000 and again at 106,000, easy job now. Actually sat back and let my teenager do it last time.

Changed mine @ 115k miles. The OEM's were slightly worn.

The only problem in the whole thing was loosening the bolts. Used a real long 10mm from Sears.

When I lived in a vacuum... before TDR... I fixed my own starter when the copper contacts were arc'd beyond recognition. I was proud of myself for figuring this out myself... and not having to pay the outrageous price for a new starter.

At any rate, how do you get a "Larry B" repair kit?

I'd like to have a kit on hand if this starter problem comes back at some point in the future. It was a pain making my own copper contacts for the starter.

Thanks.

Larry B starter kit

JR2 & I did my starter this morning. It took approx. 1 hour to do the job. It would have been much easier if the frozen road snot under my truck was not melting and dripping down my neck, arms etc.

We were able to get all three 10 mm bolts out with a socket wrench. Needed about 14" extention for the top bolt.

Truck has 119,850 miles on it and the old contacts were probably 50% worn.

Now it is done and life is good again. Heading for Cancun in 10 days.
