2006 Dodge 2500 Megacab Pickup with Cummings turbo diesel

Hauling two horses back from a trail ride in a 2-horse slant load trailer we stopped to get fast food. We had traveled about 100 miles on the interstate at 75 mph. The truck would not start, the starter never tried to engage. Voltage was fine. It took about 2 hours for the tow truck to come and I tried to start the truck about every 15 min with no success. Tow truck took truck to Service station. Truck started fine next morning. Error code P1277 starter or powertrain control module. The problem can only be further diagnosed in non-start condition. Have had no trouble since. Is truck safe to take to remote areas with horses or do I need to have the starter or powertrain control module replaced?
