Help - On the road this week - went out to go to work this morning and the '06 truck would not crank. Turn key to start position - nothing at all. Plenty of battery, everything else works that I can see - no check engine light. Kept trying for 20 minutes, then suddenly, it cranks. I am 600miles from home and scared it won't crank when I leave here in an hour.

Anyone had to deal with this? I was jiggling the trans lever, turning the wheel, lock and unlock doors, brake on/off, nothing worked.

Thanks for any help,

Jeff

Just had an experience a couple of weeks ago that was fixed under warranty after being towed to the dealer. I have an '06 and it would not turn over after being parked all weekend, plenty of battery, etc... . Dealer said they found a wire on or near the starter that was shorting to ground. Not sure if it was shorting to the block or the frame/. they did a repair and I'm back in business. Check the wiring to the starter to be sure you don't have an intermittent short.

Check your starter relay ( you can borrow a relay from near by).

Also make sure the female terminals (pins) for the starter relay are close together and not spread out.

Thanks for the responces. I checked the wiring, no problems found, and I put dielectric grease on all terminals. I couldn't find the starter relay, I didn't have my service manual with me. Truck didn't have another episode on the way home, got it home and parked it (again) and took the '99 for my next trip (again).

I contacted a dealer, and they said there was a TSB out on the wireless control module and it might be the key or module causing the problem. They didn't tell me what the number is, and just wanted me to bring it in and let them diagnose (another $180). If it is the wireless module, they estimated $600 for the repair.

When I get back again I will check the starter relay.

Thanks,

Jeff

Mine did it three times since new. Brought to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. Hasn't happened since last summer. I'm clueless.

Same thing though, turn key, everything lights and no starter. I shut the key off and a re-start has always worked.
