I got in the truck yesterday and it started but cranked very slow. I pulled both batteries and had them tested. Both failed so I replaced them. Still had same problem so I pulled starter and had it tested. It also failed so I replaced that too. After I replaced the starter there was a click then nothing at all. I took new starter back off truck and had it tested and it passed. Put starter back on truck and found blown fuse F2. I replaced fuse and tried again. Fuse blew instantly. Replaced fuse again, traced start wire up to connector by pdc and that looked fine. Pulled start wire off of starter and turned key to start. There is 12 volts on start wire when key is in start position and fuse does not blow when start wire is not attached to starter. TIA for any help!

Seems to be grounding out at starter solenoid, or the SS is pulling to much power. Where as the parts store. connected straight to a battery and did not have fuse in between battery and solenoid.

Would there be a reason for pulling too much power? Starter tested out fine. Also, clean connection at solenoid. Could it possibly be internal. I have continuity between solenoid post and ground. I don't know if that is normal or not. Thanks for the reply.

I believe f2 fuse in pdc supplies power to starter relay, which supplies power to the starter solenoid.

If your blowing fuse f2 the starter solenoid ls pulling to much power/ juice or tthe wire cnnection is grounding out. There is a possibility the wire is grounding our in the harness. I don't know how it could ground inside of starter solenoid.

Sorry for not updating sooner. After two days of tracing wires and testing power I finally went back to autozone and demanded a new starter. Installed it and truck fired right up. Very frustrating that I wasted all that time just to find out that even though the starter tested ok it was bad all along. I will not trust local auto parts stores testing equipment ever again. Thanks again Missouri Mule for the replies.

I hope it was a lifetime warranty. Parts store starters don't last long, so plan on doing it again. For a lot less money you could have repaired your OEM starter using parts from LarryB. More than likely all you needed was a contact kit.
