HELP!! Just today my wife's 2000 2500 4x4 started blowing the 20 amp starter solenoid fuse under the hood. Changed the fuse, started. Drove it home, shut it off, and started it about half hour later. Drove 10 minutes, shut it off, and went to restart 2 hrs later, and the fuse blew. Replaced it, blew that one. Replaced it again, and it started. Checked fuse after turning off, and it was good.

Did a search on the problem, and will be checking the big starter wire later. Any other ideas?

Has anyone performed this update, or just replaced the 20 amp fuse with a 25 amp fuse, and nothing else? I remember John Holmes article on the trailer tech who replaced a blown 20 amp with a 40 amp fuse to solve the plroblem, and in turn, fried the wiring harness. I do not want this to be me!!!

You could check your starter solenoid contact points and while you have the starter out you could have that checked out. Also check wires and connections to starter solenoid.

Hey scotty-u,

My truck is also a 2000, and right around 100k miles, mine did the same thing. Check out this web site: fostertruck.com

They explain the problem that you have and I had. I bought their SUPER SIZE SOLENOID CONTACTS. After installing them, I'm back to normal again. It's funny because my truck went from starting fine, to not starting at all. Other much more experienced guys here will surely chime in here. They WILL get you going again!

Good luck,

Scott

My 2001 started blowing the 20 amp fuse at just over 200K.

Contacts did not fix mine. The problem was a short in solenoid coil. I replace the whole starter with one that included a lifetime warranty from Orielly's Auto parts for less then $200.
