I bought my 1998 12 V quad cab new, just lately truck had developed a problem starting in the cold mornings, starts then dies, udually requiring several starts before it runs. After the trucks starts and runs for a coupla minutes, it runs fine.

Any Suggestions on the problem? fixes?

Thanks Much,

Breed, Dayton nevada :)

This is usually caused by the idle being too low. Give it a little pedal to start and see if that helps. If it does you need to increase the idle setting.

Could be the grid heaters as well. You might need to just cycle the ignition switch on, wait for the "wait to start" alarm to go off, a couple times to heat up the intake manifold, then hold the pedal down and crank it. (Let go the pedal as soon as it starts) How cold is it over there? Check your battery connections for corrosion too. Needs lots of good Fire on a cold morning. Do you use your block heater??

Check to see if your grid heaters are working , does the ALT gauge go up & down , thats an indicator that its drawing current, are you or can you plug it in? then check idle.
