Now that the weather has changed my 01 CTD is having trouble starting. When the temp get to be 60 degrees or warmer outside my truck cranks for a while before it finally starts up. In the morning when i start it, it cranks right up but after i drive it a while then try to crank it up agian it cranks along time before it starts. In cold weather it starts fine all the time. I have already replaced the lift pump. I have a carter 8 psi pusher pump and my fuel pressure sits abot 26psi at idle sometime right after I start it it sits at 24psi. Does anybody know What could be wrong?

im no expert on trucks with boost pumps, but i read that too much fuel pressure can cause hard starts. do a search you should find some references there. hope this helps.

Even before i put the pusher pump on it still cranked for a long time only when it is warm. My Brother has the sam set up as me and his has never done it. Anyone know what it could be?

Could be pulling air into fuel line somewhere or the injection pump is going bad. Check fuel line for wet spots. A leak in the line is a pretty good indication that you could be pulling air into your fuel system.

When i check the lines if there is no wet spots what could it be? Also I can sometimes smell diesel when i am driving the truck for a long time and hop out, but i can't find where it is coming from.

fuel psi

I'm no brain surgeon when it comes to VP44's, but I have read several threads about excessive pressure to the vp44 will do more harm than good. If I remember right, everyone claims 20psi. is about max on the inlet fuel pressure before it starts blowing seals in it. Might want to research that scenario on here.
