Seeing as I bought this truck used, I went over it with a fine tooth comb.

One thing that didn't materialize (if you want to call it that) until I returned home is a long start.

At times it starts immediately. Other times, especially after sitting over night or so, you have to keep the key turned in order for it to crank.

This normal?

I know the old 2nd Gens had issues with the starter contacts and solenoid. Possibly the same thing?

Thanks.

Ditto to what DHuffman said.

I noticed this when I brought my 2008 home new. When I mentioned it to the service guy at the dealership he told me that it's because of the new key with a chip in it. He says that it takes the truck a couple of seconds to interrogate the key's chip and recognize that it's correct. Apparently the truck doesn't start this process until the key is turned to ON.

Therefore, turning the key on and waiting for the interrogation to complete will shorten the actual cranking time on the engine.

Turn the key to on, fasten the seat belt and you're good to go every time. Except when I fail to perform the proper sequence above!

My starting issues are a little differant,,I turn the key an nothing happens,,no click ,,no grone NOTHING.
I let up on the clutch an pushed it down harder ,,and again nothing,
I kept doing this . . clutch up ,,key off.
Finally it took !!!?
Is there a switch/contact from the clutch pedal to the key?

THANKS

I had an issue like that, the module that reads the key was replaced. I would put in the key and nothing would happen, dash lights all worked but when I turned the key I got nothing. Like you said no clicks, no grone, just lots of nothing.

Interesting - I have a key with no chip in it, it will start the truck. The truck runs for about 2 seconds and then dies. I've heard others say the same thing. But I always turn the key on and wait a few seconds before starting, so maybe that has something to do with it?

(The key with no chip is so I can unlock the truck if I lock the regular keys inside. )
