Went to start my truck this morning it started then died after a few minutes. It keep doing the same thing, so I thought I had a dirty filter changed it out. Did the 3 bumps before starting it, started up and then died. Have do it repeatly wont start at all now. I filled up last night with fuel, didnt add any mix to it. It was 14 this morning when I tried to start it, I had it plugged in all night also. My guess is that it gelled up anyone guy any ideas?

No I didnt but too late to check on it now, got towed to the dealership. I believe it was the pump, took filter back out and it was dry and the re-hit it again. No fuel was being run into the filter housing. Talked to a few fellow cummins guys, they all said that it would be the pump shot craps. Glad it happened now, only had 600 miles left on warrenty!

No at 35,400 I figured that wasnt part of the motor warrenty. Would be nice thou if this is going to be a common thing.

please let us know what happens with this. i had the same exact thing happen to me at about 10F last year. the next day it went up to about 38f and truck started late afternoon. drive it to a dealer the next day and said pump was fine and fuel line must have froze. the pump was running when you bumped the starter, but not filling the fuel canaster. i have never had it happen again. was your pump running and not delivering fuel also. please let us know

Got the truck back last night, dealer said the same as yours. Fuel gelled up, I wont buy fuel from that station, and/or I wont forget to add fuel additives. My pump would run but no fuel would go into the fuel canister. Check this by having the filter out and turning the key over... no fuel. Its just odd, becuase I have at times not added additives to the tank and been fine. It was 14 and no wind blowing. Just glad the dealer didnt charge me for service call. Just hoping now that I can get my rebersiment back from dodge for the car rental. Might be time also to kick the boat out of the garage and put the truck in at night.

Fuel Gelling

Had the same thing happen to my '04. 5 Monday. It got a lttle below 0 deg F. Sunday night. The truck would start and run for about a minute, then die. I plugged in the wife's hairdryer and heated the fuel filter for 20 minutes, still no improvement.

I found that if I waited 1/2 hour or so between starts, it would run for a minute or so, so I worked it into the garage and turned on the heat. After a couple hours, it ran fine. While I was working it into the garage, I called the Mobil station I had last filled up at, and the distributor who sells them fuel. They both assured me that the fuel was winterized, and good to -30F.

Drove to Mobil, and put 6 gallons of kerosene in to keep it from re-gelling. Also went to the parts store and bought a quart of Power Service. It says the quart is good for a hundred gallons, so I added a third of the bottle.

My guess is that they don't turn the fuel over real quick, and the last time I filled up it was still straight #2 diesel. When I stopped at the station to get the kero, a tanker was there dropping diesel. Winterized fuel I'll bet!

Mine did the exact same thing run for a minute every half hour, but after the filter change I was screwed wouldnt start for nothing. I guess you learn from your mistakes and only get smarter well at least I hope.
