Competition Full On Banks Story (Truckin' Magazine)

LAst week I added injectors to my truck, running the injectors with my power box on highest level causes a sputter when you fully accelerate. Does this mean that a bigger fuel pump could be needed? Or will anyother equip/mods help this sputter? Fuel pump is currently stock See Mods below thanks!

Hey Whitmore,

I am not exactly sure of my fuel pressure, don't have fuel pressure gauge? The truck is running fine, except under this situation. Sputters at first then it kicks in? what does wot stand for?

Cummins4Life,

Can you tell me the procedure for testing your fuel pressure with a temp gauge? I never tested mine before. Thanks

I had the same symtoms in my truck with the TST box. After changing fuel filters it would go away. I changed the banjo bolts and the problem has not reoccured. You can get a inexpensive fuel pressure gauge from Geno's- I have two one pre and one after the filter.

There is a test port on your injection pump. It is on the drivers side of the pump and is covered by a black plastic screw on cap

See where the number 12 arrow is pointing, that is where you will screw on the test gauge, just till snug. Run the gauge up onto the windshield and tape it there, then make some runs going WOT and observe how your pressures react to load.

you might want to check you connections too. you said sputters at first then kick in. that could be a bad connection on the pump or something.

check your pump wire, ground, power wire and map sensor harness connections.

C4L has given you excellent advice. Change your fuel filter first if you've not already done so within the last 7500 miles. After you've established that your lift pump is operating within its normal parameters (absolutely no less than 6psi at WOT, you need to address your fuel system. As I understand it your fueling box is a very hot one and requires a lot of fuel. Therefore, I would immediately replace your banjo fittings (at a minimum) with hiflow banjos. Rod at www.wildcatdiesel.com is an excellent source for information and product. With your setup, you can not afford to be without an in-cab FP gauge. Rod is also your source for that. Good Luck.

what are banjo bolts?

Hey Rcone!

Not too familiar w/ the banjo bolts. Could you tell me what purpose they serve, where are they located, what will I accomplish by putting in high flow ones, and how difficlut would it be?

Thanks
