sewman,
In some cases it would. Most gas/diesel engines operate more efficiently at higher temps but not high enough to cause damage.

Our thermostats are up there pretty high. The thermostat is set to start opening at 181 F and fully open at 203 F. The fan helps to keep temps low after 203 F.

If your going to hook up a trailer to the back end and pull it up the hill or run the truck hard down the highway your going to need all the cooling you can get.

We all know that oil lubricates the moving engine parts but it also absorbs the heat out of the engine parts because they are moving and the internal combustion (diesel burning).
The coolant takes the heat out of the oil which keeps the oil from breaking down(sheering ?) which in turn lets the engine last longer.
You mite be able to go higher temp depending on your use of truck.
