just fyi i bought a alt for my 01 120k on was time that and i now had higher power needs for this truck so I start the hunt and every one that has a jeep in my area has one on it so i went and pulled the trigger and bought one.

:-lafhere is were it gets bad three months after putting it on my truck the diodes in the alt crap out:{ oh well it under warranty so i give them a call and talk to the head cheese over there and they give me a rma number to send it back and ship that heavy sob 3 day from california to penn and the waiting starts so i give them a week and then call:-laf the guy who test the alts is looking at it and he will call me some time today and give me the verdict ok little does he know i went and ran it on my own inhouse alt machine after i hooked up my modis to it on the truck and it was flat dead but none the less i gave them reasonable doubt and let him do his test and wait so after two days of waiting i call them back and my alt was in the works and was going to ship out the next day and all was well so i figured ok and let it go at that, mind you this is going on the second week at this point and im running a little dry with staying clam on the phone! so now i wait and wait some more. finally called yesterday and gave them the what the heck is going on and the real story was my alt had not shipped and they were waiting for parts and they might ship my alt after the first of the year #@$%! so i guess the moral of the story is if you are retired and have nothing but time to play with these jokers buy from them but if you work and cant afford to wait two month to get your alt back in your truck stay far far away

so now i have a powermaster on my truck and will see just how long there warranty takes! in a few weeks they will have had my alt as long as i owned it 3 month!!!!!

If you want a real improvement for an alternator, do a search here for "Leece Neville". Several years ago a member decided to swap out the stock alternator for a large case Leece Neville. I can't remember what all he did to swap it in, but he was extremely happy with it. Not only higher output, but cooler running as well, so probably much longer life, and you can get them at pretty much anywhere that services big trucks.

i like the idea of one wire alt's we use them all the time on our race cars and hotrods but here is my problem with the fuel pump im running and fuel heater and air compressor unit and the stereo thats under the back seat and few other things add up to big power over the stock needs and a lot of people dont think about what the grid heaters use with that all being said i just wanted a alt that made big power and be reliable and money is not a problem i have a quad rectifier on its way for the same truck im sure the alt i have is not up to its full useable output because most people look at alts and over look that unless they made a one off bridge rectifier for high output over 150 amps than

its not going to last but if you add on a rectifier unit it will take a beefed up alt and make it useable and more reliable

gotta ask midnight were the heck did every one go to i was last on here in 05-06 and there is 1/4 the post is seen then?

I know what you mean--the 2nd gen forums are a wasteland now compared to what they used to be.

I'd forgotten about the fusible links--good point!

I don't have to read nearly as many posts any more. There used to be a lot of discussion regarding suspension problems. Now, I think everyone (like myself) has had to rebuild their front end, and is no longer arguing that ball joint failures are rare.

If and when my current Ram's odometer reaches 200k I'll remove my alternator and ship it to an Amish in Shipshewanna, IN I've used before for rebuild. The Amish are the only ones I trust to rebuild them. Their rebuilds are as good as new.

I've tried having them rebuilt in local rebuilder shops in Lubbock and they always fail.

I've never bought a rebuilt unit from an auto parts store. In my way of thinking, a lifetime warranty on a cheap pos rebuild is worse than useless. Getting a free rebuilt alternator once a year when the last one fails when I'm on the road somewhere is not an advantage.

If anyone wants the name, address, and phone number of the Amish pm me.

Funny that you only trust the Amish to rebuild an electrical product... sort of like asking a priest for marital advice...
But I know what you mean. . I've had starters rebuilt buy a guy that took pride in doing a top-notch job. When he got bought out, the new guy had zero experience, and only wanted to sell new parts. The rebuilt parts from the older guy were much better and quieter than any new parts I ever bought.

I know this has nothing to do with original topic of the post, but bored to tears. I had my original starter rebuilt at 120k by K&K in frederick,md for $50, and just had them rebuild my alternator about a month ago @193k for $175. And when you get them back, they look brand new. So i guess what im trying to say is unless you want higher output, I would get the part rebuilt by a reputable shop.

I know its odd, the Amish don't own or drive automobiles or trucks and use horses for plowing their large farm fields, but they are fine craftsmen who take pride in their work.

I've also used craftsmen of Mennonite backgrounds who come from around Seminole, TX for many services also.

They do good work for fair prices.
