Steering box clunk...

This morning on the way to work I noticed that when I turned to the right there was a clunk then when the wheel would straighten out another clunk... I traced it to the steering box, I called the dealer for an appointment but my fear is, I have a 4. 5" lift with 35" tires and they may not warranty the work... . any suggestions????:(

You may be SOL on the warranty with the lift, just depends on the dealer.

Are you sure it's not the track bar, steering shaft or lower column ? I would double check them all as they are well known to cause clunking noises as well. With the wheels on the ground, and the truck running, get someone to yank the wheel back and forth hard, and look for ANY movement in the frame end of the track bar. With your lift and bigger tires, the track bar is stressed even more, and will wear out quicker. A luke's link or DT replacement will fix your problem.

If it is the box,you could try adjusting it first,as if it is sloppy it is possible it could be your noise. I think an AGR steering box would be a better replacement if that is the problem and the dealer won't cover it under warranty.

I had someone move the wheel back and forth and the sound seems to come from the box and if you put your hand on it you can feel the clunk... I only have 4600 miles on the truck all on the road. I guess i'll have to check the track bar, the noise and feel could travel.

you can (or used to be able to) take up the adjustment out of the steering box. on the top, it has a hex head bolt with a jamb nut. lossen the jamb nut and turn the hex head bolt clockwise until it becomes snug, then retighten the nut.

that is supposed to take out the wander. but if you have taken a tooth out then you are out of luck.
