Here's one (Mortonbuildings.com)

I ended up with a 30x48 Morton building. Super quality construction and a bit more expensive than most but can be taylored to anything you want. The wife wanted something that didn't distract form the house. Mine's got 18 inches insulation in the ceiling and R19 walls but I'm near Atlanta - not as cold as you guys up north. Morton been in business since 1903 I believe and have facilities all over.

Andre,

Sounds great, especially the shooting range!!!

Homer is a neat place, except on 3 day weekends, when all of Anchorage heads that way, and the tourists in the summer!!!

So you are close to Anchor Point?? Good stealhead fishing!!! Or it used to be. I would fly my T-Craft off of the ice on Lake Hood and go down there in the spring. (of course that was 35 years or so ago, so I'm sure it has changed!!!!)

I'm finishing up some projects on the truck this week hopefully, and will head to Piers on the 15th approx.

Hi to Louise.

Bob

good read here guys. .

I'm head'in to Coeur d'Alene,Id. in a few weeks to start all the leg work and get my shop going. .

something around 50x60x16 or so size . . it will be heated and insulated so I can work in short sleeves in winter, don't want to have tooo much bulk on LOL

I will have plumed for septic with hook ups inside as well as outside and power both in/out for the 5er so I can us it as an apartment while the log home is being built later. It will have a bathroom/shower washer dryer hook-up also and a big azz cement sink LOL

I'll have to look into the floor heat idea as that looks like something to keep costs down during the winter, and also help keep the 5er a bit warmer during to low to sub zero temps.

I'll have to deal with snow loads and such also...

what are you guys doing for light inside ??

I'll have a 25' or so apron in front and a 16 or 18 ' wide lean to cover so I can park the 5er outside in summer again in cement... have to hang some type lights there also.

what are you guys doing for power pannel/demands [how big a pannel]

Phil, so yor finally got the trees planted good for you !!

anyway keep the ideas flowing so I can steel a few :)

Yeah, finally got the trees back in. The place looked naked with all the vacant ground around it. 3-4 years, and the house should hopefully start to dissapear again. Still need to do a whole lot of landscaping and get the shop up. Then hopefully i can put some more time back in to the trucks. later Phil

I ran 4 rows, wall to wall, of dual tube T8 fixtures with electronic ballast. My last garage had a loud hum from the lights and the electronic units are quiet. The higher up the light fixtures, the more you need to get the same light from fixtures closer to the work surface.

In my 42x60x14 shop, I have a 6-ton heat pump with backup strip heat. That, along with smallish welder-drill press-band saw-4 post lift, etc. , etc. I was advised to install a 200 amp service. Your heating loads will be different and your equipment will have different requirements, so list everything you will power, along with which ones will be running at the same time, and let a licensed electrician help you out with the panel. Be sure to split your loads, lighting, etc. If you loose one circuit, you don't want to loose all your lights!

well just a lil update. .

do to county ordanince I have a max of 2000' shop [no home on site yet is the issue] so ahd to down sizeit a bit now 40x50. when I got here they didn't all leanto without it being included in sq. ft... now relaxed so it will have the leanto. . pad wok finished yesterday, start the shop tomorrow.

It will have 400 amp 220 panel, gas heater [very lucky to have rural and natural gas], restroom with LARGE shower for normal sized guys.

three roll up doors 1 14x14's ,2 12x10's and one steel man door and frame [don't want the crankies to get in without having to make some noise :) ]

it will have a cement floor and same under the leanto plus a 25' front pad the full width [shop and leanto] so will be 56 wide pad

been through a long hurry and wait for the permits and such.

also have to pump the restroom fixtures up hill to the home septic as the site area will not perk as it sits down hill in a bit of a swell area. . only added about $5K to the project :(

parking available for many rigs as lots of land around the shop, plus a long driveway out in front

Hopefully they will start putting my shop up towards the end of this month. It is going to be a 40 x 60 with three bay doors and one entrance. I am not going to put any windows in until i get moved over there, maybe two years. Randy

Almost done with mine. 30 x 38 x 16 inside Wife calls it the "Garagemahal". Just getting down to the end finally. Windows and doors next week, I found some lights at a local machine shop, 2 amps @ 240v, 400W metal halide for $20 each. Bought 6 for the shop and one spare. I get the pleasure of insulating and finishing the interior, wiring etc. I'm putting in a 100 amp 240 panel straight off the pole. OH doors are 14 x 14 and 9 x 9. One side for the boat and the other for the rest of my stuff. Heat will likley be FHA. Wish I could have gone with radiant but I spent all my coin getting this far. If I think about it too much I feel ill... ... .

I'd post a picture if I can figure out how to reduce the file size.

Lots of good comments and info on this thread. The only thing I could add, I did not see it yet, is I put my windows high next to the roof. This allowed light and at the same time one could not look in to see machinery etc.

30x50

I went with steelbuilding.com and got the vinyl 2" insulation, it came out pretty nice. The only problem I had was the floor, my contrator picked a lousy day to pour, and the concrete supplier did not follow delivery instructions. So all the trucks showed at the same time, instead of twenty minutes apart, and the wind was blowing at forty miles per during the lay.

I will be heating with a large wood stove and fans, I have plenty of wood.

Some pics...
