I printed out the dimensioned plan for a Mallory BHAF shield on a blueprint plotter. Its a to-scale drawing so I can just trace and cut. But I was talking to a local steel fab shop buddy of mine today and he said they have a plasma cutting table that uses a computer to follow the lines of the drawing. He can cut one out perfectly in a minute or two.
He don't work with Alum or SS, but he will make it for me out of any guage steel I want. Anyone ever use plain steel and paint it or something? If so, what would be a good thickness. I dont really want it to be too thin and vibrate alot. Yet, I dont want 1/8" steel either. I figure I could use high heat Wrinkle Black Harley Davidson paint to give it that factory look. I could also glue some foil heat blanket on the turbo side maybe.
He also has a power brake bender to put the bend in it. Is this bend exactly 90 degrees or more? He said he'd make it for me for free and if it dont work, he'd make me another if I show him what to change.
PS: This guy also drives a completely stock 91 D250 Cummins. He has 268,000 miles on it. He has never had a break down or problem, and he lets Jiffy change the oil with Pennzoil and Pennzoil Filters since new. He said he don't know how to work on cars and has never touched the engine. Some folks have all the luck!!.
