re: Steel Wheels

I'm kind of in the same boat. I looked at all the magazines that I could and I never found any. I called 4wheel parts wholesalers and asked them if any were coming out soon and they said that they doubt there will ever be any! I asked why and they said that steel wheels were for older and cheaper 4x4's and not to get my hopes up about seeing any in the near future. if you find some(especially in black) would you please post it :)

Ok find someone who will make us some custom 17x8 or 17x9's that are rated for about 4,00lbs a peice and we will buy them... .

198$ is cheep for a 37" tire that you can drive on the street without earplugs.....

Steel Wheels found!!!

I did some net surfing today and found a steel wheel that will fit the 2003 2500 and 3500's. It is made by "US Wheel" If you look on thier web site you can find it under the steel wheel menu. It is called the "Daytona" I think you can get it in chrome and black. If I'm not mistaken they have it in 17x8 and 17x9 with both in the 8x6. 5 lug pattern. I didn't get a price yet but called US Wheel and they said that SummitRacing.com could help. Well, I called them and they didn't have them in stock yet because they were so new but I will keep checking and post whatever I find out. Hope this helps some of you guys out. :D

When I was looking for 16" black wheels, I checked out available steel wheels first. I could not find a prodiction steel wheel that was weight rated over 2200#. My front axle weighs 4450, so I went with a powdercoated alloy. Make sure you check the capacity as many manufacturers don't list it.

When I bought the wheels, they were polished. I took them to a local powdercoater to get them done.

Checkthis thread to see the best pic I could find.

It's raining like crazy right now, so I'll try to post a better one when the weather clears.

thanks for all the replys...

I found a custom wheel builder for the rock crawler crowd in Colorado 75$ each I will call them tomorrow to see what the wheels are rated at may just have them put double centers in them and would still be cheeper than Stocton wheel...

I did find out that most of the 17' steel wheels use the same centers as the 16 just the rim half is different... as info...

If anyone knows of another custom wheel builder I just want a plan jane heavy duty wheel in a 17x8 or 17x9 . .

BTW the reason for wanting the goodyears is the 4k weight rating I can haul a big goose without the need for duals...

Dreher, those are sweet! fj40charles, you aren't kidding, Stockton is a rip-off. For their HD offroad (load 3040 lbs) they want $155 for a 16x8 and $205 for a 17x8. Both prices raw, $45 to $55 for powdercoating. About $20 more for their Super Single model (load 4000 lbs). Yeah, I'm gonna pay more for steel than a quality alloy like a MT Challenger or Classic, right.

I've been in a wheel dilema forever. I had just about given up until this thread and I thought I'd give it another go. Same result, the more I learn about wheels, the more I want to get into the wheel business. There is no way to go but expensive and more expensive. Why couldn't DC have just put 8" wheels on the darn thing to begin with?

Found one more pic of them with the truck. The wheels are called Madness from KMC. I bought them at Discount Tire for around $100 each. $100 more to powdercoat all four.

I'd never heard of KMC when I bought them. I think they tend to cater more to the younger street crowd, judging from the marketing. They have a lifetime warranty for structural defects, though probably not for me due to the coating process. They claim they're rated at over 3000# (seems like I remember 3250). I see they do have a new line of truck wheels with a lot of 17's available.

I've only had them about a year, but no problems so far. I was skeptical due to the price, but time will tell.

Just wondering what the name of that wheel maker is and if you found out any other info?Let us know if you find out anything would you:D

Go to Rockstomper.com...

He can build a 17x8 with GET THIS a 1/4 inch thick center and a 1/8 inch thick wheel half. Makes the bare wheel about 35 lbs but stronger than !!!!!!! The centers are the same ones they use on Ag wheels so I am sure they are plenty strong. At 75$ each plus shipping bare... they aren't a bad deal. I will have to price powder coating around here but this makes it an easy decision. . Give it a look... ... .

Found another wheel:cool: This one is another black daytona steel wheel but it is also has the simulated bead lock on it. It comes in the 17" sizes also. It is made by Allied Wheel. Anyone interested should check out thier website. I would add a link but I'm too stupid to know how:D ;) ENJOY

Hammerhead... nice wheels!

How much and what size? Can you get non-chrome centers and lugs with that?... oh and a large cola too.

Hey horseman,

The wheels are 17 x 8, They cost me $84. 00 each. I don't know whether you can get non-chrome centers and lugs but I would imagine that it is possible if you searched around a bit. I think that I will get rid of these wheels pretty quick and get some 17x9 or 17x10's. I only got these wheels because I sold my stock wheels and tires on e-bay and these were the only wheels that I could get right then. I like the look of the "allied wheel" simulated bead lock in the black!!!! They look pretty stud to me. There are several wheel manufacter's that will be puting 17" steel wheels into production this month so if your willing to wait about 2-4 weeks I bet you that there will be several more wheels to choose from. If you have any more questions feel free to PM me and I will answer anything that I can

Hey, if you're going to be replacing your wheels soon, make sure you let me know first. I'd be interested. What's the load rating if you know/estimate.
