Doing a little maintenance, I notice the output seal on the steering box is starting to leak, just discoloration now. Any advice on how to approach this. I've replaced the steering box on my old '95, but it was leeking heavily and have a lot of play. This one still feels very tight. Just seeing what all my options are. 120k miles.

If you're speaking of the pitman shaft seal, you can replace it. If the '04 steering box is anything like a Saginaw steering box piece of cake. Just order the seal. Remove pitman arm. Looking up at the pitman shaft there should be a snap ring. Remove snap ring. Start the truck while a helper has a bucket under the steering box. Turn the steering wheel, the seal will blow right out. Shut down the engine right away. Clean the area well with some carb cleaner. Install new seal with a piece of similar size PVC pipe as a driver. Use slight taps to install the seal. Install snap ring and pitman arm. Jack up front end so both wheels are off the ground. Refill power steering pump. Rack steering wheel back and forth about 20-30 times without starting the engine to purge out any air. Lower truck. Done.

It is the pitman seal and I don't know if it's like the Saganaw, but it sounds easy enough. Thanks
