My '94 allows me to experience death wobble on numerous occasions. AT 300,000 plus miles on the clock, is it possible to "tighten" the steering up, or must I replace the box itself? What is it about the PSC ( and others ) that everyone likes so well? I have priced them, and ones at NAPA, and like the price of NAPA's a whole lot better. What am I missing? Tie rod ends are tight, new steering stabilizer, DSS installed in Feb. HELP!

Death wobble can come from numerous sources like ball joints, track bar, control arm bushings, steering box, sector shaft, steering shaft, tires ,shocks or alignment also. I have seen guys go through 3 or 4 Napa boxes before they finally get a "good" one. The choice is yours and with that many miles your box is probably worn out.

Scotty - Every time I've had death wobble in my truck I've found that the trac bar was worn out and replacing it resolved the issue. As others have mentioned on this and numerous other threads, there are multiple things that can cause the problem though. Just sharing my experiences...

The 2nd gen trac bars are pretty much worthless in very few miles,I converted mine to the 3rd gen bar. Good for many years now.

I had bad death wobble on my '00 model. To repair it, I had my wife sit in the truck and rock the steering wheel back and forth with the engine running. That way I could see the play in the steering linkage and trac bar. I replace any part that showed excessive wear. Then I replaced the steering stabilizer with a Rancho from Advance Auto. Death wobble never came back on that truck. I have gone further than that on my '01 in order to tighten up the steering and be able to steer in parking lots.

My 95 offered me a full dose of death wobble EVERY day with 328K miles on it. I replaced my track bar with a stock style bar and it helped nothing. Like was mentioned earlier they are basically junk. OK now I have heard you can not adjust your steering box AFTER I tightened mine up. This did not help the death wobble but it took some play out of the steering.

Replace your track bar with an 03 up stock track bar and the bracket that Solid Steel makes and you will solve your death wobble preolems. I did this and also put the brace that holds the box from flexing. Both upgrades are well worth the time and money.

Bracket for 03 up track bar:
