Had my steering box on my ETH replaced this this morning and I cannot begin to you how much difference it made,as far as I am concerned I have a different truck. I tried all the adjustments on the old box without any luck. My advise to any one is to tell your
dealer that your steering wheel does not return to center and have them replace the box. Bottom line is I now have a new truck.

Tell us more! How hard / how long did you have to work with your dealer? Did the dealer want to just "adjust" the box, or, did they replace and get it right the on the first shop visit? Is there a formal Tech Bulletin for the 2001 yet?
I need to know all these things because my ETH is wandering too; initial adjustment of the box helped, but one week later it is beginning to wander more again, or at least, I am noticing it more again. Kind of scares me - I've come close to losing my mirrows at least once if not several times.

I had my steering box replaced due to a slight pull to the right. I think my truck now wanders a little whereas before it didn't. It also still seems to pull to the right. I was unhappy with the service in general. Maybe I'll try another dealer - too bad 'cause the first one is where I bought it and is walking distance from my work!

Mines going in monday and I'm going to try like hell to get a new box, I've tried all the adjustments and checked the preload and its still all over the road.

First of all, the ETH'S that have been having steering wander problems are due to the fact that the steering wheel does not return back to center properly. Something as minor as changing lanes should always try to return to its center position. Mine didn't even attempt to do so. After many adjustments on the overcenter adjustment and the bearing preload and alignment of tires, I finally resigned to get a new steering box. (One of the first things that the guy who aligned my tires noticed was the fact that my steering wheel didn't return to center properly. ) As far as the trouble I went to about the dealership ordering me a new steering box--there wasn't any. They trusted my conclusions about the box being bad. I now drive a totally different truck--it's great!!

Terry,
Is the new steering box a delphi or a saginaw box. I understand that the delphi is the new replacement that my be the key to my truck driving good. I would appreciate any help.
