I feel a slight clunk coming up the steering shaft and into the steering wheel. Nothing major but i can feel it. Truck has 27,000 miles on it now. Any thoughts? I know older trucks had a steering shaft problem but could this be an issue with such low mileage?

My truck has a clunk in the steering column when the wheel is turned almost all the way. I don't remember, but I think I get it when turning the wheel back. It's been that way since the truck was brand new, so it's not ball joints. For some reason, the dealer(s) can never feel it, even though it's very pronounced.

my truck (same as yours) @ 17K miles has just had the steering gear box and front axel hubs replaced under waranty. For the same reason= CLUNK. intresting, the steering gear box was marked: FORD. (same part number as the Crown Victoria) very wierd!

hmmm, my truck may have the same issue, you mainly feel it when you are in a wide gently sweeping turn at slower speeds, its kinda wierd because you can somewhat feel it in the brake pedal, I would not call it a clunk per say just rather a feeling that a tie rod or something has a bunch of slop in it and you feel something loose in the steering wheel. they replaced my steering box, and it went away for about 3 or 4 days, its been back for a while but I am too busy to take the truck back in

My truck has the same clunk issue. I can feel it through the brake pedal and steering column. steering box and inner tie rod have been replaced, but the irritation is still there. The truck drives perfectly, has been aligned, etc. I don't know what to check/replace next!!!

My clunk turned out to be the AC hose at the compressor. Replaced by dealer with no further problem.

A/C hose at the compressor. Is it something loose, or a clunk when the compressor comes on? I'm confused. I couldn't find anything when I looked under my truck today for problems.

I thought the clunk was something different. Didn't believe the dealer fixed it until the problem didn't repeat itself. One of the hoses that goes to the AC compressor had a "restriction in the orifice". This caused the pressure levels to be wrong. Everytime the compressor would kick on with heat or AC I'd get the clunk.
