Steering Column Gauges

I'm going to be mounting my gauges with the Autometer steering column mount. The instructions say to velcro to the steering column. Just wondering if anyone has installed this mount and do they have rubbing against instrument cluster when tilting steering wheel or does it fit pretty well? Anyone remove top half of steering column??

I run the steering column mount and it was very easy to install. I didn't use the Velcro, I used the plastic push pins they supply, like the ones in the a-piller mount. You do not have to take anything apart on the steering column, and yes it fits nice, no problems. I mounted my boost gage there, I like it's position. I can still see the speedo, and rpm but can monitor the boost without looking away from the road. I think it looks kind of racy, definitely different.

I just popped mine in place. No velcro and no pins either. It snapped in nicely.

Drivers eye view

lmills, Could you post a driver's eye view of the gauges and the dash? Interested in seeing what dash gauges are obstructed and to what degree as I am in the market for my new '03. Thank you.

All three pics do look very good. I will probally go with the steering column mount when its all said and done. The cubby whole would be a nice place too, but I tend to use it more than I thought I would at first. Seems to me I read a post awhile back about lowering, or adjusting the steering column, or something to that affect in order to give a even better view of the bottom cluster of the gauges. Anyone else read this!

May I suggest a modification to the stock dash. . . throw out the speedo, center the tach. It just goes as fast as it can, who cares what number it is? That way a clear view of the tach. LOL



Gotta small confession to make, I always admonish everyone else for pulling trailers too fast. My GPS retains the top speed each trip. . . some reason the thing is always registering triple digits. Every time I reset it I scold myself and make a promise not to haul over 65 MPH, but. . .

None of the gauges really get blocked. The odometer is obstructed, same with some of the message lights on the message center(ex. cruisecontrol light). Other than that they add a nice touch and look sorta factory. Plus the pillar is still open for future use if needed. As for the price I bought mine from Geno's garage. I believe it was around $225-230 for the whole set up. It came with the boost bolt for the manifold and very nice detailed instructions and some adapters.

I used the push pins which required four small holes in the column top cover. I also cut a larger hole in the column top cover for the wires and all to go. The pod didn't lay flat if I didn't do that. Did anyone else do this?

packnheat, You didn't say whether or not you have a manual transmission. If you do you'll have a hole in the side of your new column where the gear selector for an auto would have been.

I have an Automatic . My mount laid flat on the steering column but had to be two way taped to keep from moving. Otherwise looks pretty good. Just need to connect wires now.
