Steering Column Noises

My 97 has clunking noises coming from the steering column that now feel like the steering wheel will fall off. Any suggestions.

Sometimes the grease in the sliding shaft will work its way out causing the clunking or popping. There was a TDR suggestion a couple of issues back that recommended squeezing the base of the rubber boot on the shaft to force the grease back into the slide area. I believe I saw another post where someone slid the boot down and lubed the shaft.
