hey everyone, i've searched through the thread and found little info on the steering column's so i thought i'd post, my '92 w250 has major slop right at the wheel the column has been torn down and the problem is the bearings that isolate the steering shaft, as mentioned in a prior post an industrial bearing supply should have the bearings but they don't, so my question is will a column out of an '87 truck work?, also has anybody converted to a '94+ column, they seem to be much easier to find but a little more pricey, if anyone knows where i could get a (preferably tilt) column for my '92 around michigan lmk, thanks for the help

There's a 92 in Norfolk VA

Try Tubbs Used Auto Parts they have a 92 not sure if its a tilt collum or not though. 757 545 8418 Ken Irwin

thanks i'll give them a call monday morning, anyone know if the '87 column would work, what was the years the dodge trucks were the same? thanks again

The prob I see with the '87 column is that the wiper controls are on the dash, no multi-switch in the column. I have a tilt-cruise column from an '87 right now I'm parting out. Looked at putting it into my '89, but this is why I didn't.

other than the wiper switch is the column the same though?, could i pull apart an '87 column and swap the bearings that are toast in my '92?

I'd guess that the lower bearing is the same.

I'd also guess that you could get any of the bearings thru an industrial supply house. Locate by type, OD and ID. It is probably a cheap stamped angular contact ball bearing.

Can't comment on the bearing but the wiper switch I can and will, not a huge deal but if it is intermittent then you'll need the wiper motor too, intermittent switch and motor work together only, same for the non-intermittent switch and motor.

Also, if a bearing supply can't take a caliper to that bearing and find one then I don't think they are trying very hard. Time to try another supplier...

the upper bearing is not a standard bearing, their are "fingers" made into the aluminum stamping the individual balls ride in there, then their is an internal race/sleeve, it is just all worn out, i'm thinking of having a buddy try and machine a bushing to fit a little lower in the column or trying to locate a bearing that may slide in lower, i'll have to look at it a little closer though
