03 3500 4x4 steering gear box is leaking fluid at the bottom dealer has been trying to get seals but dodge keeps canceling the order they say they are looking for a supplier. using a quart a day . auto parts stores say dealer only . HELP!:

Wow, would a whole new box be cheaper than a quart a day? I think you can get them at a parts store for about $200.

Duc, I don't know what you are wanting to pay, but there is a company that takes the old sterring boxes and rebuilds them better than what they came new. I just can't remember the name, you can do a google search for rebuilt dodge steering boxes and find them. I will look and see if I can find them again and post back.

they will ship you one that day no need to wait for them to rebuild yours.

My steering gear box has a seep my mechanic recommended a re-man one because if you repace the seals it leaks again sooner or later.

i have bought a rebuild from performance auto price 170. 00 if a rebuilder can get the parts why cant we. the rebuild will leak sooner or later because its the same parts as the original
if dodge hadnt claimed bankrupsey the parts supplier would be making parts i have had the dealer rebuild kit on order for 6 months but the order keeps being canceled because dodge cant find a supplier to build them . if nissan or toyota builds a diesel i think i will buy one maybe they wont pay the ceo millions in bonuses when they are loosing money!

We are just seeing the beginning of the parts sources drying up.
In a few years we may have to junk good vehicles and likely our beloved dodge trucks if there are no parts:(

Lucas oil makes a steering box oil that will swell the seals. Can be purchased at Walmart. Did this on my race car and it has not leaked since. 8000 RPM. Give it a shot its about $7. 00

sorry poor typer i found a pitarm seal kit at advanced auto 35. 00 i pick it up 7/22/09 i will keep you posted i found out my local dealer cant get parts to do recalls because the part suppliers wont make parts unless the are paid up front first. i understand that obama motors aka gm is in the same boat.
