Steering Gear Box

own a 91 4X4 with 335/70/17's - lifted and I plow with it. last winter I had to put in 2 power steering pumps after the 1st one went out. Swapped them out with a newer version of the vaccum pump/power steering pump combo that would allow me to change the power steering pump by itself. (later than 91. 5 right?) What a learning process that was. Now the steering gear box is pouring steering fluid out of itself. So I called Borgeson for a new steering shaft to replace the rag joint cause it's driving like and old VW Micro bus, with several inches of slop in the steering wheel before the tires actually begin to turn, a little hairy on those sharp turns.

Borgeson has nothing in the steering gear box area to offer just the U-joint shaft. So what have you guys opted for. Don't want to buy something to have it fail in a year or less. I plow alot, haul alot and just plain allaround have fun with this truck. Need a new gearbox so I can get my Borgeson shaft and put my steering issues to rest. I thought I read somewhere about a company that rebuilds them and uses stronger components for a lifetime of use.

Thanks Tim

PSC (Power Steering something-or-other [Components?]) builds good boxes. I had one in my stock 2wd 91, and loved it. I think they do pump rebuilds, too.

I think the big tires may be part of your problem, combined with medicore parts store rebuilt pumps.

Sounds like it may need a crossover steering set up. Reduces strain on the components, and the driver! :-laf
