2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering noise

I've got a question about a noise in the steering I have noticed lately. I only hear it while maneuvering or driving around a parking lot, as at any higher speeds I wouldn't be able to hear it over the mighty Cummins. It almost sounds like a hiss or smooth metal rubbing smooth metal. It happens when I turn the wheel either direction. I tried jacking the front end up with both wheels off the ground and steering it back and forth and it didn't do it then. I have a 2002 3500 QC 4x4. I have almost 50,000 miles on the truck and probably noticed it about 5,000 miles ago. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
