What is an acceptable amount of steering wheel play and how does one measure it?

I believe my truck has excessive play, the dealer says it's normal and my extended warranty is up in 2,000 miles.

Plesae advise.

Thanks in advance!

You might have them read this, and check for slop in the bearing preload. If it's loose, it's easy to take up the play, and it will cause your truck to "wander" & react slowly to correction while driving. I have 180k on my 97, and it steers great, but I've taken up the preload twice. Might check it, it's an easy fix & I hope that's all it is.
