Recently purchased a high performance steering pump for my 2002 24v dodge. Installation requires installing the new pump in the old resevour and swaping the mounting bolts. There's also a drive adapter that must come from the old shaft to the new. Is there a tool that removes and installs this adapter similar to the pulley remover? Trying to complete this project over the TG holiday and my three local parts providers have not been much help. One tells me there is such a tool, but they don't have one. Another tells me the pulley remover won't work and the pump should have been supplied with an adapter from the remanufacturer. Is there such a tool? Where do I find it?

Be carefull installing the new pump. It's easy to damage the seal in the back of the vacuum pump and create a leak. You may want to remove the vac pump and swap the PS pump with the whole think on the bench.



The drive coupler should just be a "dog" clutch. I think that the coupler you speak of is in the vacuum pump and the new pump should have the other side of the dog clutch already installed on it. Swapping the reservoir is not too hard, but requires great care to not bend the sheetmetal reservoir and cause a leak. Use a little heavy grease to hold the Orings in place while you put it all together. I don't think you'll need any special tools for the install. Just basic sockets, wrenches, hammers, punches, etc.



My advice is to add a cooler to the return line after the performance pump install. The additional flow will cause the fluid to heat up on longer drives. I generally add a 5x11 tube and fin (cheap) trans cooler to the ones that I do.



On the coupler, it's simple. Take the new pump out of the box. Remove the vac pump and ps pump from your truck. Separate them. If the new pump looks like the old one minus the reservoir, you're good to go. Just take your time and be careful. The hopped up PSC pump was the best mod I've done to my truck bar none.
