After a couple of times towing a 12,000 lbs 5er my steering wheel pump now makes a loud hummm. I had to work the wheel hard a few times backing up into our camp site. Please don`t tell me that the pump isn`t worth a darn :{ . My truck just turned 15,000 miles. Thanks Guys...

i dunno i know that i have 20K on my truck and i am getting my 2nd replacement pump as soon as it comes off backorder

A side note to this noise, I just aired down the tires to the reg. air pressure from the tow pressure. It sounds normal now, so why would the higher tire pressure work the steering wheel pump? -M

I've got 33900 on my 04. 5. The reservoir is at the fill line, my tires are at the proper pressure level. Everytime I turn the wheel 20 degrees past tdc, it makes a squealing noise. Dealer says it's nature of the beast.

Did you get your problem solved? Did you check the serpentine belt? Is it worn?

I had a similar problem on my Jeep which I retrofitted with Hydroboost.

I had the same problem with my 04. 5 and the dealer replaced the pump only. After a few thousand miles the noise came back.

On the 06 pump started making the noise and the fluid smelled burnt. They just finished replacing the whole hydrolic system. Pump, power unit, brake booster, cooler, and all lines. The problem was a bering in the pump that burnt up. They replaced everything to make sure there were no problems in the future.
