Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 370 Injectors

Hello,

I got some questions on adjusting the bearing preload (not the over center adjustment) on the steering box.

1. What does the preload of this bearing effect?

2. If the preload is too much/tight, will it effect the steerings ability to return to center?

3. Where can I buy the spanner wrench used to make the adjustment?

Thanks

Ryan

Find the tsb regarding this on Dodge Ram.org (the fritz site). It can be adjusted on the truck.

I use a spanner wrench for a angle grinder with the handle chopped down about two inches. Siata makes one...

After penentrating oil and getting the lock nut off, run the spanner nut all the way down, then back off 3/16". Assuring it doesn't move (paint marks or scribe marks), retighten the lock nut, then put the steering shaft back on and retighten the bolt.

I secure the steering wheel to prevent clockspring damage.

Good luck,

Andy
