Steering Shaft Repair Kit

My sons truck has the shakes. I checked the front end and have replaced the shocks and put on a steering stabilizer. The steering shaft is sloppy at the steering box. I recently saw that someone posted a repair kit number that was available at the dealer, but I can't find it. If I remember correctly it was about 5 bucks. I'd appreciate any help with this.

The kit number is P/N 04443436 AC. There is also supposed to be a better rubber boot, P/N 04740761. If you do a search of the forum you can find out how this has worked out for other people.

Heres's one thats not always checked when this occurs, check all 6 tires to see if any are bulging, out of whack, worn underinflated. Ex-girlfriend was complaining about her truck wobbling and having the shakes real bad, most noticeably when making turns. Thought she had a front end problem, went to look at it and immediately saw rear tire on left was all worn out and had a bulge in the tread. New tire and cured the shakes. Bill

I agree, definately check the tires. I was running some used 285's a few months ago that the previous owner rarely rotated, they were all worn funny and they never really ran right untill I rotated them and evened them out. When I got my new tires, my truck runs like a dream.



But if your tires are not wearing correctly, that means you need an alignment.

Thanks for the replies guys. One of the first things I did was check the tires. Naturally my son had them blown up HARD! I set them correctly. After I do the steering shaft I am going to take it for an alignment. Thanks again.

There is a Flaming River replacement steering shaft (similar to the Borgeson) in the classifieds.
