my steering wheel is shot and an ugly bugger to boot. will a wheel from a later truck fit? i know the air bag and switches won't swap but if i get a complete wheel (say a 98 or so) can you bolt the whole thing on?

Good question...

I don't know if the steering columns are the same or not...

What about the airbag - they're really expensive suckers to work on...

I want a plastic (non-leather) wheel for my '98... it's all tore up and rubs off on my hands, etc...

Pep Boys sells a nice leather cover that you sew on with a heavy thread. When done right you have to look close to tell its not factory. Its not that cheapie looking macreme looking stuff that wraps around the wheel. It takes about an hour to install but well worth it and runs about $15

I can't find it now, but I'm 99% sure I saw that Grant makes a replacement steering wheel for the 94-97's. Was carbon fiber or something like that.

1997 4wd Early-Split mid-year,only fits this model.

1997 2wd Late year build-Fits this model only.

1997 4wd Late year build-Fits this model only.

1998-2002 2wd-All fit

1998-2002 4wd-all fit.

I was informed the steering wheels are the ONLY part that is interchangeable in the trucks 1994-1997 and even at that depending on the air bag mount, they may not interchange. 1998-2002 all steering wheels fit(only ones that will not are those with stereo controls on the back) and the only difference is 2wd or 4wd for column fit. Called a friend who owns a salvage yard locally and they checked the latest Hollander book for you. Hope this helps..... Andy

Ok here's another question, what about eleminating the stock or OEM steering wheel all together? and go to an aftermarket more 'dressy' steering wheel? Can it be done, or are the triggering mechanisms for the air bag going to stop one from doing that? Cause I personaly don't need an air bag, and don't care if it's there or not.
