2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission steering wheel moan

got a question for you guys and was wondering if any of you had any similar problems? I'm am getting a moaning sound out of my steering column when I turn one direction. It has been doing it for quite a while and seems to be getting progressively worse. While driving in a parking lot is when I notice it most and it only happens in one direction. When I have passengers, they think my truck is falling apart!!! I can also feel it thru the column. Does anyone know what this might be?

Does it happen when you hit the brakes too? Could be that you're low on Power Steering fluid and the pump is groaning.

originally thought it might be the wick but if it's that noisy probably not, I'd check the steering box and short shaft

no it doesn't do it when I hit the brakes and the fluid level is fine but it is the original fluid in it. Possibly I should change the fluid but it feels kind of like it is in the column

Your pump is not putting out enough pressure to satisfy the steering box IMO. You said the fluid level is good. I would try fresh fluid. If that didn't work, find out where you can have the pump pressure tested. If that tests good, you probably need a new steering box.

I pumped out as much of the original fluid as possible and replaced it with royal purple synthetic ps fluid. it took about a day to go away but it seems to have gone away now and that was about 400 miles ago.

I have the same issue and gave up checking on stuff cuz I could not find a problem. just groans when making a right turn can't wait to try this hope it works thanks guys!
