Hi Gang; Yesterday I replaced my leaking steering box with a PSC SG-841-M. it was a relativly easy change thanks to having a new pitman arm. (broke the tool trying to remove the old one). As careful as I was the steering wheel is off by a little bit. With the wheels strait ahead the wheel is almost 90degrees off to the right. I tried to reposition the pitman arm, but as you know it goes on in 4 positions due to the shaft segments of 90 degrees.

by repositioning it 90 degrees, it is off to the other side. Any ideas????? Due to the flat on the coupler, the shaft only goes on 1 way. :{

You probably got a bad steering box. I actually broke a steering box on my truck 4 wheeling, and it did that exact thing. The gears slipped a tooth inside the box causing it to be 90 degrees off. I could still drive it, but I eventually changed it out because it was really anoying to have the wheel in front of the gauges. Possibly your new steering box was re assembled incorrectly at the rebuild factory? just a thought

Cant you just adjust the streering drag linkage sleeve? I have never done it but it would make sense that if you had your wheels pointed straight ahead and loosened the sleeve on the steering drag link and adjusted the correct way it would straighten out the steering wheel, right? You would have to pull your battery cables so you could leave the ignition on to allow the steering wheel to move. Obviously re-tighten to torque specs on the sleeve bolts when done.

Am I correct or way off on this? Like I said I have never done it but sounds like the way that you would adjust this.

That's exactly how I adjust mine. It's the sleeve on the drivers side. Just walk out in front of the truck about 30 ft, and sight down the side of the truck to make sure the wheels are straight, lining them up with the rear tires. That's also how I do my alignments. :D

I just replaced my box with a PSC SG841M also and my wheel was off 90 degrees. I took it to the alignment shop last week and they adjusted the sleeve til it centered the wheel. You probably want the wheels off the ground. Try a big channel lock plier to turn the sleeve.

Thanks for the replys, but my truck is a 2wd and there isn't a sleeve on the drag link. There are only sleeves on the tie rod ends, and that will require a alignment too.
