2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission steering wheel off center

I read previous posts, but the question I have is: can't this be corrected without getting an alignment? The truck runs perfectly straight, just the wheel is annoyingly off to the left by a few degrees.



I believe the answer is yes, but the Dodge dealership service person says that an alignment must be done at the same time. Tell me he's wrong, then I'll be justified in continuing to ever deal with dealerships. (by the way, today I fixed my passenger side mirror for $5 dollars at Pep Boys; replacement cost at Dodge dealership---> $255!!!)

my truck does the same thing, but after getting it aligned 4x the wheel is pointed a little to the pass side- pretty freekin annoying

I'm thinking I should leave well enough alone; I'm afraid that they may get the wheel right, but then the alignment will be off (given that it drives pretty straight now).



I think most peoples' wheels are cocked to the left, versus the right. That was just my impression from reading the threads.

You do not need an alignment to adjust this. You can adjust this through the drag link. This is the bar coming off the pitman arm. With the wheels straight loosen the bolts and turn it until your steering wheel straightens out. When your steering wheel is off so is your turning radius. If you have any questions PM me. mine had the same problem - took me 5 mins to adjust the drag link on the pitman arm.

4x2 steering wheel position

You don't have a drag link so tell the tech to,

" Toe the high side in, and the low side out"

to get the steering wheel straight.





High side or low side being the steering wheel position.



If you have a 4x4 it's easy to adjust wheel position with drag link.

OK, Steve, since I'm 4x2, I don't have a drag link. But doing what you suggested will change the toe settings (although I suppose I could still be in spec and have the wheel straightened).
